Do you skype people who are abroad? Do you use skype for business conferences with people elsewhere in the UK or abroad? Are you frequently annoyed with the quality of skype calls? If the answer to these questions is yes, you really should be on Google +!
Many people are continuing to use skype as it is already set up and seems to be the easier option for conference calls, when infact, Google + ‘hangouts’ would be a much better option for you on a personal and business level. First of all you need to sign up for a google account. You can then use that username and password for any Google product, and can sign in with Google +.
The left hand side bar allows you to add friends to your circles and share your status, just like you would add friends and update your status on Facebook. But, the best thing about Google + for me, is inviting people to ‘Hang Out’! At the bottom of the left hand sidebar is the ‘More’ tab, click on it and it will give you the option to ‘Hang Out’. You can then click on the red ‘Start a Hangout’ link and invite people.
Here’s the exciting stuff…
You can have more than one person in a hangout. Google + has the facility to add a You Tube video to a play list, so that all your participants can watch it together. You can also slide share and document share – perfect for video conferencing and crowdsourcing ideas.
My favourite facility on Google + is by far the stupidest! Google + effects will pick up on your facial features and then dress you in your desired attire! Once in a hangout, click on google effects (in apps across the top menu bar) and then click on the headgear or disguise that you would like to wear. Speak to your friends and family wearing a moustache and pirate eye patch! Or speak to your business partner with a Dog or cat face! Pretend to be snorkling whilst video conferencing, even be an astronaut! This adds a comical dimension to your virtual discussions, so please use it and enjoy it!
