Social media is massively on the rise. Through our own social media usage and secondary research, here are our top 7 social media marketing trends for 2015.

7 Social Media Marketing Trends for 2015

#1 Mobile Usage Explodes

Mobile usage is on the increase for social media. In 2015, Facebook reached 1 billion active mobile users a month (Statistica). The increase in mobile usage goes hand in hand with Mobile specific apps, such as Snapchat.

In addition, if you have your own website, make sure that it is mobile responsive, otherwise, you could be missing out on traffic and sales.

#2 Social Media Sales Rising

We are seeing a massive rise in sales through social media, which means that it is no longer an option for businesses to ignore social media altogether. There is an increase in direct selling through third party apps such as Facebook shops, and it is predicted that this will continue to rise. According to Statista, by the end of 2015, social selling will amount to $30 billion worldwide, that’s a 50% increase over 2014’s $20 billion (Social Media Examiner).

#3 Growth of Instagram

We are directly seeing an increase in Instagram sales for several of the businesses we work with. Instagram is a great platform for images and ‘in the moment’ updates. Last year, Instagram reached 300 million active users, and that is still rising through 2015 (brandwatch.com)

Something that is working very well for our business is offering a free Podcast when people subscribe to our mailing list with Aweber. Podcasts are very popular with generation Y (the younger generation graduating from high school and college).

#5 Facebook still in the Lead on Social Media

There is evidence to show that Facebook still out-performs any other social media channel, with 1.44 billion users. Paid Facebook ad usage is also on the increase amongst Facebook business users.

#6 Increase in use of Social Media for Customer Service

Business are moving towards active engagement with their followers and use of social media for customer service. This is probably due to the ability to schedule content through platforms such as Hootsuite and Tweetdeck, which allows more of a focus on interactions.

#7 Brand interaction with Bloggers and Vloggers

Bloggers and Vloggers are also on the up, and this includes ‘sponsorship’ from brands and companies. There is a massive increase in bloggers, from beauty YouTubers like Zoella (below) who review make up to travel bloggers such as Globertrotterguru who get complimentary hotel stays. Brands are now recognising the need to work with bloggers and bloggers because of their massive influence and social media reach.
